Chief Brian Robert Uhren, 58, of Hawkins, WI, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026, with his mother, daughter, son, and dear friend by his side.
Brian was born on November 15, 1967, in Ladysmith, WI, to Patricia and Robert Uhren. He graduated from Ladysmith High School in 1986. Brian had a deep love for the Hawkins community. He joined the Hawkins Fire Department in 1986 alongside his lifelong friend, Todd Lemke.
Brian was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting at his family-built cabin shared with the Martinson family, fishing in tournaments, camping with friends, going on side-by-side rides, and attending the Crandon races every year. Brian cooked like he was feeding an army. Whether it was trying new drinks and making sure everyone around him tasted them, smoking something new on the grill, or experimenting with new seasonings, he brought people together with food and laughter. He was full of life and love.
Brian worked for the Rusk County Highway Department since 2014, where he built incredible friendships that felt like family. Brian served as the Fire Chief of Hawkins since 2005, nearly two decades. He was deeply dedicated to service, leadership, and protecting the community he loved. Brian was also the biggest supporter of his daughter’s continued military service and his son’s career as a laborer. He embodied the saying, “First to Support.”
Brian is survived by his mother, Patricia Uhren; his daughter, Kristie Uhren; his son, Randy Uhren; and his brothers and sisters of the Fire and Rescue Department. He was an amazing father and son. We are dedicated to ensuring his spirit lives on.
Brian’s service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Ladysmith. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. for family and 10:00 a.m. for the public. The memorial service will begin at 12:00 p.m. and conclude at 1:00 p.m. Deacon Craig Voldberg will officiate. Following the service, there will be a celebration of life. Details will be announced at the end of the memorial service.
We would like to thank everyone for the love and support we have received. We are forever grateful for our community.
A complete obituary will also be published in the Ladysmith News.
