Charline Hope Lovely

November 10, 1919 — November 26, 2025

Ladysmith

Charline Hope Lovely, born on November 10, 1919, in Weyerhaeuser, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025, at Care & Rehab - Ladysmith, at the remarkable age of 106. The daughter of Cyrus & Mabel (Frenchick) Alvey, Charline was born during a year marked by world change, as 1919 saw the end of World War I with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, the beginnings of women’s suffrage, and Charlie Chaplin’s early work on The Kid. Throughout her long life, she often reflected on the extraordinary era she was born into and the extraordinary journey that followed.

Charline graduated as valedictorian from Weyerhaeuser High School in 1937. On May 19, 1940, she married the love of her life, Thomas Richard Lovely, Sr. The couple shared 56 devoted years of marriage until his passing in 1996. Together, they raised three sons: Thomas Richard Lovely Jr. (Judy) of Athens, TN; Robert Lovely (Charlyn) of Hayward, WI; and Charles “Chuck” Lovely (Kathy) of Oregon, WI. Charline often said that raising her three boys was one of her greatest joys.

Her family grew over the years to include eight grandchildren, each of whom she cherished deeply: Kerry Lovely of Maryville, TN; Kelly Lovely of Centennial, CO; Alyssa Lovely of Portland, OR; Thomas Lovely of New York, NY; Chase and Kyle Lovely both of Hayward; David Lovely of Omaha, NE; and Paul Lovely of Oregon, WI. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren, who brought her continued delight in her later years. She is also survived by a wide circle of friends who admired her joyful spirit.

Charline was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas on October 29, 1996; her parents; and her half-sister, Maxine Alvey.

Charline lived in many places throughout her life, creating memories from Wisconsin to North Dakota, Texas, Iowa, Nebraska, California, and Arizona. With Thomas, she traveled the country in their motorhome, proudly noting that she had visited nearly every state at least once. She looked back on a life filled with adventure, often saying, “I’ve seen so many things.”

A talented writer and painter, Charline remained active well into her later years. She was a member of the Writers’ Exchange in Ladysmith. One of her poems even earned a blue ribbon at the Rusk County Fair. She enjoyed painting landscapes and participating in community activities, including dressing up as a Hawaiian dancer and joining staff in the Hokie Pokie at the nursing home. She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Ladysmith.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 5, 2025 at Nash-Jackan Funeral Home in Ladysmith with Rev. Mary Messmer officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time on Friday at the funeral home.

Reflecting on her long and full journey, Charline often said, “I’ve had a real good life and did a lot of things. Time flies when you’re having fun.” Those who knew and loved her could not agree more.

A complete obituary will also be published in the Ladysmith News.
