Ernest "Ernie" Simpson

Ernest Earl "Ernie" Simpson, 93 of Bruce, died on February 19, 2026 at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield. He was born on May 29, 1932 in Smithville, KY to Ernest & Effie Simpson.

Ernie married Shirley Barger on June 7, 1953 in Bushnell, IL. He previously lived in Kentucky for 15 years and Illinois for 12 years before relocating to Bruce on July 4, 1964. He was a Tech SGT in the US-Army and was a member of Bruce American Legion Post 268. He was a very proud farmer who took pride in caring for his family and friends. He loved walking around Bruce, visiting with people. He also enjoyed working in his yard and flowerbeds.

He is survived by 1 son; Robert Simpson of Weyerhaeuser, 1 daughter; Carol Woodmansee of Bruce, 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren. Also, a special mention of nephew Frank (Judy) Simpson along with many other nieces & nephews.

Ernie was preceded in death by his wife; Shirley on December 28, 2016, his parents; Ernest & Effie, 1 son; Albert Simpson, 2 grandchildren; Casey and Elysia Simpson, 3 brothers; Robert, Frank and Albert Simpson and 3 sisters; May Small, Evelyn Glass and Rose Valley.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 29, 2026 at the Blue Hills Cemetery north of Bruce with Rev. Mark A. Bartlett officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Bruce American Legion. A celebration of life will follow at 1:30 PM at the American Legion Hall in Bruce.
