Jane Hanson, 82, of St. Louis Park and formerly of Exeland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina. Jane was born on August 1, 1943, in Radisson, to Flossie and Martin Hanson. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church.
Jane was proud of her Norwegian heritage and was a lifelong fan of the Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Minnesota Twins. She worked for the railroad for many years before retiring. After retirement, she enjoyed staying active, spending time in the community, and visiting local places. Friends and family knew her as a strong and independent woman who valued hard work and simple joys.
As a young woman, Jane attended Valley View and worked hard from an early age. At just 14 years old, she pushed a lawn mower on the baseball diamond each week for Charlie Bull. She later graduated from Bruce High School in 1961.
Jane never married, but she treasured her family deeply. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her sister, Verna (Karl) Schott of Bruce; her brother, David (Paula) Reichel of Bruce; four nieces; one nephew; and six great-nieces and great-nephews. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Flossie and Martin Hanson; her stepfather, Henry Reichel; and her sister, Joan Clark (Lawrence Clark).
She will be remembered for her independence, dedication, humor, and love for her family and community.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at First Lutheran Church in Exeland, with Rev. Mark A. Bartlett officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at 11.00 a.m. at the church.
Memorials in Jane's memory may be made to breast and ovarian cancer or First Lutheran Church, Exeland.
A complete obituary will also be published in the Ladysmith News.
