Judith "Judy" Jez

August 25, 1940 — November 19, 2025

Tony

In loving memory of Judith Jez, 85 of Tony, WI, who died on November 19, 2025 at Care & Rehab - Ladysmith after a long fight with Alzheimer's Disease.

Judy was born August 25, 1940 in Ashland, WI. Her parents, Charles and Clara (Miller) Hansen moved their family to Big Falls Dam when she was young to work at the Hydro-electric Station on the Flambeau river. Judy was married to John Jez, Sr. for 64 years, most of that time living in Tony, where they made a lifetime of family memories and many, many great friends.

Growing up on the Flambeau river gave Judy a great love of the outdoors, which she passed on to her children. She was a passionate reader who never went anywhere without at least two books and she loved to lend them to anyone who shared her interests. Judy loved going to garage sales with her husband, John, and she usually gave away most of what they bought! Judy was a great bartender, probably because she very seldom drank, and worked for many different owners of the Tony bar, Les and Molly's, over the years, through to its closing . Judy was a great basketmaker and many of her family and friends have one of her baskets as it was the making and the doing that she loved more than the having. Few people came to visit without going home with something. She gave her daughter a deep love of taking a class and learning something new, reading, shopping as a spectator sport and the love of a well stocked closet.

Judy is deeply missed by her daughter, Julie (Mike) Carlsen, daughter-in-law, Bonnie Jez, grandchildren, Jessica and Jordan Stearns, Lisa(Aaron) Engel, Amanda Carlsen, great-grandchildren, Camille and Wesley Engel, sister Jean (Joe Zirn) Hansen, and brother Charles (Cynthia) Hansen.

Judy was preceded in death by her son, John Jez Jr., husband John Jez Sr. and a grandson, Brian Michael Carlsen.

The family would like to thank the dedicated and loving staff of Care & Rehab - Ladysmith for everything they do for all of our loved ones; our gratitude cannot be measured.

A complete obituary will also be published in the Ladysmith News.
