To know LuAnn was to know the true meaning of selflessness.

Mary LuAnn Gryga, known to those who loved her as LuAnn or Louie, of Kennan, Wisconsin, passed away on September 12, 2026, at the age of 72. She was born on December 28, 1953, in Missouri to Warren and Bette Thorpe.

To know LuAnn was to know the true meaning of selflessness. She lived with boundless empathy and a generous heart, always among the first to show up whenever someone was in need. With that same quiet grace, she devoted her life to being a steady protector, caregiver, and anchor for her family.

LuAnn found joy in the simple things: cooking meals, tending her garden, canning vegetables, and caring for the cats she loved dearly. But more than anything, she treasured the time she spent with her family.

Her home was always a place where people were welcomed and loved. She especially cherished the holidays and loved having family gathered at her house. The laughter, food, conversations, and memories made around her table are memories her family will carry in their hearts forever.

She is survived by her children, Priscilla (Duane) Geboy of Phillips, Sarah (Jeff) Fettes of Medford, Gretchen (Joe) Kimball of Minocqua, and Ryan Gryga of Kennan.

Her family was her greatest joy, especially her grandchildren: Devin (Breanna) Fries, Devan (Katie) Geboy, Dillon (Gina) Geboy, Mackenzie (Zach) Meier, Will Kimball, Maison Fettes, and Ben Kimball; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Danika, Aurora, Dawson, and Braea.

Although LuAnn is no longer with us, her love will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known her. The memories she created, the traditions she began, and the love she gave so freely will continue to be carried forward for generations to come.

LuAnn is also survived by her siblings: Ginny (Mike) Campbell of De Pere, Elmer (Barb) Thorpe of Altoona, and Barb (Jim) Mabie of Kennan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Bette Thorpe; her brothers, Richard and Stewart Thorpe; and her sister, Franny Gryga.

Her unconditional love and devotion were at the heart of her family. She gave so much of herself to the people she loved, asking for little in return. The compassion, strength, and kindness she carried throughout her life will remain with them always.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, at Faith United Methodist Church in Ladysmith, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. Reverend Mary Ann Messmer will officiate.
