Russell J. “Russ” van Treese, 48, of Conrath, WI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, surrounded by family, at his home.
Russ was a skilled carpenter who took great pride in his workmanship and the care he put into every project. He lived with a strong Christian faith that guided his life, and he found joy in the simple gifts of each day—time outdoors, the beauty of God’s creation, and the quiet moments that inspired his poetry. Whether he was working with his hands, writing a few lines, or spending time outside, Russ was happiest when he was creating, reflecting, and appreciating the world around him while surrounded by friends and family.
He is survived by his girlfriend, Startrina Sorensen; his mother, Mary Ann of Conrath, WI; four siblings, Laurie Mais (Richard) of Longwood, FL, Christopher van Treese (Lisa Chen) of Orlando, FL, Connie Cavanaugh (Robert) of Woodbury, MN, and Kenneth van Treese III of Haines, AK; and nieces and nephews, Harry Cavanaugh, Angela Brooks, Jacy Bohaty, Jared Franks, Alyse Carrasco, Kayla van Treese, Jacob Chen, Kiana Mais, and Jordon Mais.
He was preceded in death by his father; Kenneth H. "Kenny" van Treese.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ladysmith with Rev. Craig S. Zandi officiating.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time and lunch will be served following the service on Tuesday at the church.
A complete obituary will be published in the Ladysmith News.
