Twink Winchell, 78, of Hawkins, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on April 17, 2026.
He was born on November 9, 1947, in Dorchester, Wisconsin. Twink was the son of Ernest and Martha Winchell, who preceded him in death. He spent much of his life in Dorchester before moving to Hawkins in 2012. On October 30, 1971, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary (Gabriel) Winchell, in Colby, Wisconsin. Together they built a life rooted in hard work, family and a shared love of the outdoors.
Twink was a dedicated dairy farmer who never shied away from hard work, taking on any job necessary to provide for his family. He found great joy in nature and cherished time spent hunting, fishing and sharing those passions with younger generations. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he brought laughter and unconditional love to those around him. Twink also served his country with honor in the United States Marine Corp as a decorated soldier, carrying his service with quiet strength and leaving behind a legacy of resilience and dedication.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; his children, Joel (Ada) Winchell Medford, WI and Nicole Winchell (Jeremy Jochimsen), Medford, WI and his grandchildren, Trisha Winchell (Bear Timm) Medford, WI and Shelby (Jake) Hoernke Colby, WI. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Olivia, Finn, and Stella Kochendorfer. Twink is further survived by his sisters, Judy Schultz Abbotsford, WI and Susan Messmann of Dorchester, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Jerry and Larry Winchell.
A visitation and service will be held on April 22, 2026, at the Klossner-Dietzler VFW Post 5729 in Medford, WI beginning at 1:00 p.m., with military honors to follow at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Therance (Teri) A. Hanson will officiate. Burial will take place at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery-Spooner at a later date with immediate family.
Twink will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
