William Arthur “Bill" Chapman, age 84, of Sheldon, Wisconsin, passed away on January 14, 2026, at his home in Sheldon from natural causes.
Bill was born on March 10, 1941, in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, to William Arthur Chapman, Sr. and Rose Korn Chapman. He served in the U.S. Army and lived for a time in Annapolis, Maryland and then left the service in his early 20's. Over the years he resided in several Wisconsin communities including Rhinelander, Park Falls, Butternut, Eau Claire, and most recently Sheldon. He retired after a long career with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with friends, and living on the family farm in Butternut where he raised his family. He dearly loved his dogs, especially his most recent companion, Beauty.
Bill is survived by his close friend and companion, Janice Nale. He is also survived by one son, Steven A. Chapman and his daughter, Anna Chapman; one daughter, Michele (Timothy) O’Neill and their children, Quinlan, Ryan, and Kaitlyn O’Neill; and Scott's 3 daughters, Emma, Grace, and Lydia Chapman. He is further survived by one brother, Dennis Chapman of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, and two sisters, Shirley Jergenson of Gallatin, Tennessee, and Carol Lochner of Raleigh, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Scott Alan Chapman.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Nash-Jackan Funeral Home in Ladysmith, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. with Doug Sorenson officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.
